Last Week Tonight with John Oliver

We partnered with Emmy and Peabody-winning comedian John Oliver to satirically cover why the public should care about gene editing.

There is no show quite like HBO’s Last Week with John Oliver and we were delighted to assist on their excellent gene editing episode on July 1, 2018.

The goal? To help introduce CRISPR technology to a mainstream audience as only John Oliver can.

We provided technical background, key industry issues and themes, links and resources to other participants, interviews with CRISPR pioneer Dr. Jennifer Doudna, and storyboard and scriptwriting assistance.

The LWT team did a brilliant job of stitching together a nuanced and funny report focused on the ethics of applying CRISPR responsibly, all delivered by the incredible John Oliver.

Risky? Yes, but worth it. To date, the episode has garnered more than 11 million views on YouTube.
